On our return trip from Michigan we listened to a long show on Martha Stewart’s radio program about waffle dogs.  Take a hot dog, sausage, or (preferably) a vegan smart dog and wrap it in a waffle.  Then get creative with toppings: mustard, maple syrup, peanut butter, baked beans, chili, relish, all of the above… (okay, maybe not all of the above).  By the end of that show, all I wanted were some waffles.  I excluded the dog here and instead sauteed some apples with a little agave and cinnamon.  Yum!  The waffles are this recipe sans figs and walnuts and with coconut oil instead of olive oil.  It’s a fantastic base recipe for playing around with.
